Health Benefits of Owning Houseplants


Surrounding yourself with plants and creation is essential to our wellbeing! It is a part of God's super cool design. The homey benefits of coexisting with plants creates a healthy positive environment!

Air quality

Plants exchange gases and water with their surroundings, which helps combat crappy air quality in your home. We forget about the stuff in the air that can weigh us down and have a negative effect: dust ( I am super allergic ), carbon dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, pollutants like benzene

Releasing Water

Plants increase humidity of the air around them by releasing moisture vapor. We learned back in middle school that plants release roughly 97% of the water they take in. Placing several around your home helps keeps colds and respiratory distresses at bay. Not to mention, having them around really keeps your skin hydrated!

5 House Plants to Start Your Plant-Based Environment:

1. Aloe Vera

I make sure to have organic aloe vera in my fridge at all times. iI literally use it for everything!

I use it for hair masks, face masks, burns, digestive aid, etc.

Aloe is one of the most common natural remedy to soothe irritated skin.

The plant needs to be deeply watered and their soil left to dry just slightly (about 1 to 2 inches deep) between watering.

Indirect sunlight is best.

2. Boston Fern

"A natural humidifier" that combats toxins!

So, basically, this plant is your skin's best friend.

Boston ferns are super easy to grow and take care of. Perfect for those who need a low maintenance plant that also doesn't need direct sunlight. Just make sure to keep the soil damp.

3. Dragon Tree

Known for purifying the air of the carcinogen, benzene, commonly found in the off-gasing of synthetic materials, ciagerette smoke and other household chemicals. Also known for removing formaldahyde, xylene (found in varnishes, paints and paint thinners) and trichloroethylene (found in solvents) from the air.

It requires little attention and tolerates dry soil and irregular watering and prefers no direct sunlight. It is, however, susceptible to fluoride toxicity (so fluoridated water sources may need to be avoided).

4. English Ivy

You are super sensitive to mold, like me, then and English Ivy could be the houseplant for you! It’s known to purify up to 94% of airborne mold particles that can trigger allergies.

If you suffer from asthma or difficulty breathing it is a great plant to put it your bedroom!

CAUTION: Do not ingest! It is poisonous to us!

The plant thrives under fluorescent light but not direct sun; soil should be kept moist.

5. Snake Plant

The snake plant, AKA the “Mother-in-Law’s Tongue”, is one of the most popular houseplants for improving indoor air quality. It does most of the hard work while you sleep! Turning yo hot ass breath (carbon dioxide) into oxygen!

Snake plants also remove toxins from the air. It is best to get more than one to really cover some ground with these babies. Probably get at least 5 to ensure you are purifying the entire home.

Needs indirect sunlight, need little water and caring for; let soil dry out in between watering.

6. Spider Plant

According to (source), Spider plants are bomb at combating this stuff called formaldehyde. It can come from things like paper bags, waxed papers, tissues, paper towels, napkins, particle board, plywood panelling and synthetic fabrics. In addition to formaldehyde, snake plants target carbon monoxide and other toxic air impurities as well.

A spider plant can grow in any type of soil and only needs to be watered occasionally!

These are perfect plants for anyone who does not have a green thumb. It almost seems to good to be true that plants so useful need so little care!

I have to warn you, though. Collecting houseplants can become a strange addiction!!
